- individualized resource guide that describes the most common issues discovered in your manuscript and the steps you can take to fix them
- in-line comments corresponding to the issues noted in the editorial letter and brief suggestions to improve them
- in-text corrections for major grammatical and spelling errors (can be waived)
- call via Zoom (or over the phone, if preferred) to review the editorial letter and answer any questions you may have

Beta Reading
Beta readers are individuals who read works of fiction or creative nonfiction and tell the author what works and what doesn’t in their manuscript. While this was traditionally unpaid, there are beta readers who now charge for this service. If a beta reader requires payment, make sure they will provide you with more than just informal feedback.
My paid beta reading service includes:
- one read-through
- a two- to four-page report addressing issues, such as plot, pacing, character development, etc.
- resource pages that define common problems found during a a beta read and how to fix them
- in-line comments highlighting major grammatical or spelling errors
Cost: $0.0015 per word (ex. an 80,000-word manuscript would cost $120)
Manuscript Evaluation
A manuscript evaluation, also called an editorial assessment or manuscript critique, falls somewhere between beta reading and developmental editing. This service is ideal for authors who have had informal beta readers and want some professional input or those who aren’t ready for a full developmental edit just yet. My manuscript evaluation includes:
- one read-through
- five- to seven-page report addressing issues, such as plot, pacing, character development, etc.
- resource pages that define common problems found during a manuscript evaluation and how to fix them
- in-line comments corresponding to the issues noted in the report
- in-text corrections for major grammatical and spelling errors (can be waived)
Cost: $0.00625 per word (ex. an 80,000-word manuscript would cost $500)
